Dear Lunada Bay Families,

Welcome back to school 1st grade families! We are so excited to have students back
on campus. The reopening presentation is available on our website under News and
Announcements. As a reminder, due to the current public health order, parents and
volunteers are not allowed on campus. If you need to conduct any business at school,
we ask that you please come to the front office, with a mask, and we will be happy
to help you. Thank you all for your continued support during these challenging
times.

As we begin to bring students back to in-person learning, please continue to be
mindful of your health status, travel, gatherings and other high-risk exposure
activities that might put our community at risk. An outbreak at a school will result
in school closure, something we all want to avoid.

Thank you all again for your flexibility as we work to return all our students to
Lunada Bay Elementary on a full-time basis.

Every year, the month of February is deemed the celebratory month for Black
History, and this year, we would like to highlight some key contributions made to
our society by Blacks and African Americans.  Black History Month has a long legacy which included the creation of the Negro Week, and eventually the month - long celebration of achievements of Blacks or African Americans. Dating back to 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor
throughout our history.” This month is centered around building awareness around achievements of Blacks for those outside the race, but also for those of Black Heritage. For instance, did you
know that Garrett Morgan, a Black Inventor, invented the traffic signal?
Below is a highlight of key dates commemorative of Black Heritage along with some
resources on how you can participate in celebrating Black History Month with your
friends and family.
