Homework

Hi Parents,

Did you know we only have 13 days of school left?!  Crazy right?  Homework  is now finished!  We will now be doing a "spelling bee"!  Please see your child's homework folder or the "spelling bee" file on the right for more information.  Basically, the kids will be studying a list of 20 words and taking a spelling test the next day. There are 6 tests.  Our first test will begin on Monday!  The kids are excited about it!

Have a nice time at the Hoe Down tonight and a wonderful weekend!

I would like to extend a  very gracious THANK YOU to you all for making me feel so loved, blessed, and appreciated this week!!  I am always humbled by the generosity at Lunada Bay.  I have been showered with breakfast, flowers, coffee, school supplies, gift cards, and a lunch today!  The class even gifted me a gift card to Nordstrom!  It has been a truly special week.  Thank you so much!  I enter into this weekend with a warm heart:)

I would also like to wish all you moms out there a very special and Happy Mother's Day.  I hope you are spoiled rotten this Sunday;)  Please note, your child has a very delicate gift for you in their backpacks.  They should be handled with care;).

Have a wonderful weekend:)

Spring Sing tomorrow!

Hi Parents,

Don't forget that the Spring Sing is tomorrow, Wednesday, May 9th at 9:20am.  The kids will be singing a song "Space Worms" and they will need a pair of socks, the more colorful the better!  They do not even need to match because they will be using them for their hands. ;)
Hope to see you there:)

Homework this week

Hi Parents,

Please note a correction in the homework this week.  The dates are as follows:

*There is no field trip on the 28th.
*The bubble map is due this Friday the 20th
*The writing template (Next week's homework)  will be due Friday the 27th.

Also, the reading log is attached to this note.  Please make sure your child also turns that in on Friday. It is also on the right side of this page for your reference:).

Wednesday is a no homework day, so your child can skip that day, if you choose;)

Have a nice week!

A note about homework...

Hi Parents,

Next week's homework is research based.  You may want to get a head start on finding an animal for the animal report.  The animal must be from one of the habitats we've learned about, rainforest, desert, ocean, or polar.  (I've also asked Mrs. Pearce to set aside some animal books for the kids to check out during library time on Tuesday).  Your child will be brainstorming and taking notes this week.  Please have your child return the homework on Friday.  We will check it in and send it right back so your child can start on part two (in next week's packet.).

Also, as the weather gets warmer, I want to make sure your child is drinking enough water.  Please send your child to school with a water bottle every day, especially on PE days (W and F).  The PE teachers encourage the kids to bring their water bottles with them to PE.  It is also a good idea to label the water bottles;).

Thank you and have a nice weekend!

Treasure Box Prizes

Hi Parents,
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend.:)

We don't have anyone signed up to bring in treasure box prizes for the month of April.  Can you donate?  It really helps to have new treasures to buy with their tickets!  Dollar Tree is a great place to buy cheap toys.  If you could help us by buying 24 different small items, we would much appreciate it.

Thank you!!

Homework and reminders

Hi Parents,
It's been a busy month so far!  Please look over the homework carefully this week as there are many reminders.

Also, don't forget to make a visit to the Ceramics Art Show on Thursday (3/29) morning from 8-8:30 in room 15 (science lab).

Have a lovely weekend!

Teacher movie day! March 19th, 1:30-3

Hi Parents,

Just another reminder about the movie with teachers fundraiser.  It will be this Monday, March 19 from 1:30-3pm sharp!  Bring $30 (check for LBPTA) if you haven't already.
Kids may bring:
  • sleeping bags (we will be in the MPR, so bring this or a blanket to sit on)
  • pillow (optional)
  • stuffed animal (optional)
  • slippers (optional)
I will get a list from PTA if you already paid.  I'm looking forward to Monday:)!

Teacher Movie Day!

Hi Parents,

Those of you who attended the parent social know that you had the opportunity to bid on "Watch a movie with first grade teachers". This is a chance for us 1st grade teachers to help in the fundraising effort for our school AND we get to spend a little extra time with your child.  You still have the opportunity to do this.:)  It will be after school next Monday, March 19th in the MPR from 1:30-3pm.  If you are interested in having your child attend, please send a check (made out to Lunada Bay PTA) for $30 to school ASAP.  I am looking forward to spending the afternoon with your children;).
Thank you for supporting Lunada Bay!

This week's homework

Hi Parents,

I hope you had a nice restful weekend.  I enjoyed the rain and the beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Please note that this week your child will be writing sentences from 2nd trimester word wall words.  Please see the right side of this page for the link to these words.

Also note that the students will be making leprechaun traps with partners in class.  Please see the green note that went home on Friday and this week's homework about what supplies to bring.

Have a nice week!:)

Parent/teacher Conferences

Hi Parents,
Next Thursday, March 8th, we will have a minimum day (dismissal at 12 pm).  The afternoon is reserved for conferences, if needed.  If you did not receive word from me about a conference time, then I have not scheduled one for your child.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Thank you!

poetry journal

Hi Parents,

Check the right side for a link to the poetry journal, in case your child misplaced it.  Just print the page, read, color, and turn in...if needed;)

Thanks!
Have a nice week!

Chicken Soup Poems

Hi Parents,

I hope you are enjoying the nice cool weather.  I know I am :).  This is a friendly reminder to make sure your child is prepared to recite the Chicken Soup poem for February this Monday.:)

Thank you and have a nice weekend!

Upcoming Events

Hi Parents,

February is a busy month!  Please note the following:

  • Tuesday, February 6th is the 100th day of school.  We are asking students to "dress up" like they  would if they were 100 years old!  Some ideas are: gray hair, wrinkles, granny hats, shawls, purses, beards, mustaches, walking sticks, and old lady dresses.  We spend the entire day with 100 day activities.  It should be tons of fun!:)

  • Wednesday, February 14th, is Valentine's Day. Your child will have the opportunity to pass out Valentines to the class on that day.  Please make sure your child has 21 Valentines to give out.  You may have edible treats, but please be aware that we have a gluten allergy in class and no nuts please. Your child may fill out the "from", but please leave the "to" blank.  It makes it easier to hand them out if they are not addressed to every specific child.

  • There is no school February 19, due to Presidents' Day.

  • There are still a few who have not turned in last week's homework on symbols.  This needs to be turned in ASAP because this will be turned into a class presentation.  Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a wonderful week!
